I get antsy after staying at home for more than two weeks, which is why every summer since going away to college I have gone out of my way to spend my summer away. For example, I spent the summer before my junior year in New York City interning, and this past summer, I spent a good half of my summer in London. When I came home for winter break, I thought I’d be back at school around the 2nd. Little did I know, I’d be stuck here.

Luckily, after we found out my car was dead for good, my father (who lives in Orange County, California) went and bought me a used 2007 Toyota Camry from his car dealership. Since he bought the car out there, it has to be shipped across the country via truck. This could take up to 7-10 days from the pick-up. And then once it comes, I need to go get my tags and sign all the registration paperwork. So, currently, I am stuck at home indefinitely.

January, at Hollins, is J-Term, which means students take either one course on campus, complete an internship, or study abroad. When the English department asked me to complete my honors thesis last spring, one of the conditions was that I would spend my J-Term writing the thesis (fall term is for research, j-term is for writing, and spring term is for revisions and edits). I am lucky that I do not have to physically be on campus for the month, but since I do not associate coming home with school — writing has become one of the hardest things for me to do. The thesis is working out, but not as easy as it would at school.

And on top of all this, I am really missing Dillon. When we both left for winter break, we were like “See you in two weeks!” and well … those two weeks have passed, and I hate being away from my best friend for so long. I’m hopefully going to be back to Virginia by the middle of the month, but writing that still makes it seem so, so far away.

Dial now.

I just saw a commercial that said to call 1-800-Bad-Drug.

I'll be there for you

Ally (my sister): You want to know why your car was meant to die this week?
My mom is up in the Georgia Mountains visiting her boyfriend. I’m stuck here — with Shyla. Not too bad, I just wish I was back in VA.

Why Georgia, Why?

On my way back to Virginia today, I was about 40 miles from my mom’s place when my car just DIED in the middle of I-75 North. I was going about 70 when my car just dropped from 70 to 20 in five seconds, and then from 20 to 0 mph. Luckily, I was able to get off on the shoulder before it just died. The light came that came on in my car (I have a VW Passat) looked like a battery light, but after getting out my manual, I discovered it is the generator light.

So, while I called AAA (which I didn’t have prior to this — so I had to become a member, in case this happens again) and they sent a tow-truck out to me in the middle of bumblefuck North Georgia, my mom came and met me. My car was taken to some shop half-way between here and where it died, and the place is going to be closed until Monday (at least). This means I probably won’t get back up to Roanoke until Tuesday or Wednesday.

This is probably going to cost an arm and a leg. Ugh. Why does it have to be so complicated? I really just want to get back to Virginia, be with my lovely boyfriend, and start writing my honors thesis, but it’s just too much to ask for right now. Oh and it would be lovely if I could feel better too.

Keeping up with the Kardashians

I’m obsessed with Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s on E! And luckily for me and ulcer today, I have been able to watch the entire season of Khloe and Kourtney in Miami and all the latest episodes of the new Keeping Up…. season. Yay!

I honestly don’t know why I like this show so much.

Calm

As the ball dropped last night, I spent the night curled up in a fit of tears over none other than a throat ulcer. I frequently get them, and whenever I do, it’s not just my throat that hurts — it’s my entire body. I get a fever, the chills, body aches, and a migraine headache, all on top of a sore throat that can only be explained as the worst sore throat you can ever get. I’ve been dealing with these since sophomore year of college. However, last night, my aunt and my cousin informed me they get them too — so I guess it’s not just me. Still, it doesn’t make me feel much better. Especially since these ulcers tend to last for around 10 days at a time, and there is nothing a doctor can prescribe to get rid of it.

Anyway, I have a few new years resolutions (such as to floss on a daily basis!), but I think overall my whole motto for the year is to just stay calm. It can only benefit me, right?

December 2009!
